Tax Identification Number in Mexico and Other Countries

Every country has a unique key that identifies us as taxpayers and that allows us to make tax declarations to each country’s authorities.

Did you know that if your client does not have a tax identification number (RFC) you can make an invoice under "sale to the general public”?

You can make sales invoices to the general public using a generic RFC. Each country has its rules, but for Mexico the RFC is defined as:

• XAXX010101000 for sales to residents of Mexico

• XEXX010101000 for residents abroad

Do you know what the name of this tax identification key is in your country?

Here are some examples of countries that quote and invoice with Osmos Cloud. From Osmos you can edit and customize your tax identification number as well as the name of the sales tax:

Canada         -                 Tax ID o Business Number.

Bolivia, Colombia, Panama, El Salvador and Guatemala  -  NIT Número de Identificación Tributaria).

Argentina   -                 CUIT (Código Único de Identificación Tributaria

Brazil    -                         CPF (Cadastro de Persona Física) or CNPJ (Persona Jurídica)

Venezuela     -                RIF (Registro de Información Fiscal)

Chile    -                          RUT (Rol Único Tributario)

Costa Rica  -                   NITE (Número de Identificación Tributaria Especial)

Dominican Republic - RNC (Registro Nacional del Contribuyente)

Uruguay   -                     RUT (Registro Único Tributario)

United States  -          TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number)

Paraguay, Peru, Nicaragua and Ecuador   -    RUC (Registro Único de Contribuyentes)

Guatemala        -           RTU (Registro Tributario Unificado)

El Salvador    -              NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria)

Honduras      -               RTN (Registro Tributario Nacional)

European Union    -          NIF (Neighborhood Investment Facility)

Spain    -                     CIF (Código de Identificación Fiscal)
